Answers: Why does it take weeks or months to reach the CNS along the peripheral nerves?
it can depend on the infection site. It replicates at and adjecent to the area of infection.....and through retrograde axoplasmic flow, makes its way to CNS...Infects the neurons of the brain. It degenerates the spinal cord and the brain. Different folks react differently and take longer or shorter amounts of time to show infection, but the outcome if untreated is always the same.
