How Do I make the BOILS Go AWAY????!

Question: I got my first Boil when I was like 13, now I am 22 and have been getting them ever since. I once had one that was as big as a baseball. I have been to different doctors and they all give me antibiotics, which DO NOT WORK! I am so tired of them, they hurt SOSOSO bad. I get them at least every two months. I am a clean person so why do I keep getting them? I mainly get them on my inner thighs or butt but last month my top lip became hugely swollen and it was a boil. I also get them on my stretchmarks on my tummy and along the scar from my c-sections. I have tried boil ease YUCK, to no avail and several other so called remedies. HELP!!! Too many years of this!

Find the best Dermatologist (not a General Physician, they may not know what it is) in your town, or if it's a small town find one in the nearest city.

I believe that what you are suffering from is called Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Basically, boils appear in your armpit, under the breast, upper leg or genital areas. Some people have severe cases and bumps in all these areas, others may only have a few bumps in one area. Basically, it starts after puberty or in early adulthood. These areas all have andocrine sweat glands (larger than regular sweat glands found pretty much all over our bodies). These areas also typically have hair follicles. It may start with an ingrown hair and once it clears, boom!, there is another bump that appears in the adjacent area. This is because the real problem is not one ingrown hair, it is an infection and blockage of the sweat gland. The problem can quickly infect/affect the entire area. The aftermath is scarring and while the bumps are active they are very painful at times, oozing pus or blood and then may become dormant and then return weeks or months later.

It is a very embarrassing condition and many people do not go to a doctor because they have a sore in the genital area which is never fun, and it's scary. I am having one area removed (I have a very mild case and only have had 2 sores so far) on Jan. 31st.

Once it is removed I will be drinking Turmeric in a glass of water once a day (it is said to prevent, help heal boils) to prevent further outbreaks. When I do have a sore, I have found it is best to use a warm compress nightly then use guaze bandage overnight with black salve/drawing salve (I know, eww). In the morning I wash with an antibacterial soap. If it is draining during the day I use a guaze bandage and tea tree oil. I have also used Campho Phenique to get the large underlying lump to come to the surface.

E-mail me if you want to chat. Do research online, you can google it..but beware, of course you will see the worst cases/pictures online and they are scary. It is a chronic (never goes away) and progressive (gets worse with age) disease. But, with treatments including antibiotics, home remedies like I listed, warm compresses daily, epsom salt baths, maybe trying the turmeric...and possible local cortison injections when you very first feel a new lump...we may just be able to keep this thing under control.

Colud be caused by ingrown hairs? I know it sounds odd but there is a save for horses called icthamol it's this black stuff it is a drawing agent, you put it on then put cling film over it and a warm towel as hot as you can stand it, to draw it to a head. I feel for you, my nephew ussed to get them on his tail bone.

they are hereditary. there is a soap you can bathe with called hibiclens. its at your local walgreens or cvs stores. it comes in a bluish green like bottle and you can tell that it a medicated soap. use this for the rest of your life. it should help. quit putting scented lotions on your legs and bottom, if thats where you are getting them. only use the regular lotions like vaseline intensive care. nothing from bath & body works.

I get boils alot, and it is true, they are hereditary. My Grandma gets them really bad and she told me to cut a piece of a potato and hold it on the boil for about 15 minutes. I know it sounds dumb, but the potato draws the infection from the boil to the top. Then use a warm/hot wash clothe and hold it to the boil. It should break open on its own and relieve the pressure.

This doesn't prevent them, but it does relieve the pain.

I know that you may have a condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa. It is a condition of re-occurring boils/ cysts/abscesses , that are often misdiagnosed as ingrown hairs, herpes, being unclean and folliculitis. This is a newly diagnosed skin condition , but there is a lot of info out there.
Here is a link :

If this sounds like it might be you, READ it, PRINT it out, and TAKE it to your DOC.
Its better to try to start treatment soon, it can spread over the body if left untreated. These boils can become quite large and painful. Sometimes even lasting for weeks or months , do not attempt to POP them they can then tunnel under your skin and spread all over the body. Most common areas are but definately not limited to armpits, groin, binkni line, inner legs, and intimate places and basically anywhere that sweats and rub against clothing. Stress is a big inducer.

There is some support groups at MSN
