Should I take expectorant cough medicine?!

Question: I have the flu right now, I've had it since Saturday morning. It's getting better; my fever is gone, I'm no longer dizzy, I have no more muscle/joint pains. However, I still have a very sore throat, and a really bad cough, where I'm producing mucous, but not enough. It's taking a really long time for it to get out.

I'm also in the school play, and I have rehearsals tomorrow afternoon, where I have to sing. I definitely can't sing right now, so I want to try to get rid of this cough as soon as possible. Should I take expectorant cough medicine? Or would that make things worse? What kind of cough medicine should I take, and what brand works best?

An expectorant is a medication to make the mucus thinner and easier to cough up, usually by thinning it down which increases the volume. The cough medicine is to make you not cough. If you think that makes sense go for it :->

If you really have the flu you shouldn't be exposing the rest of the cast to it anyway. If you MUST go, wear a mask and just do you lines quietly - forget singing, shouting, and things that may make you cough more. The lines and blocking out any movements take the most rehearsal, anyway.
