Is this a recent development or have you had dry, chapped skin for a long time? Certain environmental changes can cause dry skin. Being that it is winter, the cold & windy weather outside combined with the dry heat indoors could be contributing to the problem.

Dry skin can also be caused by the cleansing products you use on your face or it could be an indication of an underactive thyroid.

There are a few things that might help. First of all, find a good moisturizer, something intended for dry or sensitive skin. Check that the skin care products that you are using are hypoallergenic or intended for sensitive skin (at least until your skin becomes less dry).

Next, start using a humidifier.

When you shower, use warm rather than hot water and try to keep them short. Hot water has a drying effect.

If all else fails, see a dermatologist or esthetician. Esthetician's are skin care specialists, and probably more fun than the dermatologist because you get a facial out of the visit. Many spas/salons have an esthetician on staff.

EXFOLIATION. I am sure you have some wonderful soft skin under the old dead dry stuff. There are many salt and or sugar scrubs out there..

Do you wash with hot water? That dries out your skin a lot.

Drinking lots of water is good, but it will only hydrate your skin so much. The weather also affects your skin condition. My hands get really bad and dry in the winter. I drink lots of water, but I have to make sure to not wash my hands in water that's too hot, I apply mosturizer everytime I wash my hands, and I keep my hands covered with gloves or mitts when out in the cold.

it may just be that the air is dry where you live. also if you do dishes a lot that also causes this.

I'd recommend in addition to the extra water & elimination of bad items from your diet that you add more veggies, fruits, & fish. & take more vitamins, especially omega 3's --> omega 3's do tend to argue with a person in the form of "fish burps". So you need to get the type that is formulated for being burpless (it will say it on the label, a good one is from sam's club makers mark brand). Or you can keep your omega 3's in the freezer & take them at bedtime to avoid the burps.

You might also want to get a few humidifiers for your home to keep the air more comfortable in the winter months.

Your skin probably will start showing improvement in a week or 2 from all the extra nutrients & extra humidity.
