White people and Fake tans?!

Question: For many hundred years white people, tried to convince the world they where superior to darker people because their skin colour was lighter. Unfortunately this still happends today.

Why is it that, now, more than ever, white people are trying to get a fake tan. Emphasis on "trying"

It looks disgusting.

Leave us coloured people alone, and let us have the right to be coloured without you white people trying to take that away from us too.

LOL

It all has to do with social status. A long time ago, it was a sign that you were wealthy/high status if you had pale skin, b/c it signified that you didn't have to work for a living outdoors in the sun. Since the 1940s and 50s, though, the trend has changed. A lot of people have jobs where they work inside, and they get pale/pasty. Since then, a sign that a person is of a wealthier class is the tan, as it shows that you have enough leisure time that you can spend a lot of time outside/on the beach, etc.
Of course, some people think they look better with a bit of a tan. I agree with you that the "fake bake" stuff generally doesn't look good, but I would say that most of those people aren't trying to BE another ethnicity, or "steal" your identity.
People all over the world make the light-dark distinction, unfortunately. I've lived in Asia (different countries) for about 10 years. Almost all Asian people truly believe that light skin is beautiful, and dark is ugly (again, its associated with status and working outdoors). Is it right? No. But should you be getting all worked up about people and their fake tans? Probably not.

So many shades, so little melanin.

What do you care about some white person getting a tan? Mind your own business you Racist pig.

they dont do it so they dont look white though. Is it wrong for a white person to sunbath then cause then they will get darker?

The reason light skin was valued was because it indicated an economic status that allowed you not to be in the fields working. When it shifted to factory and office work a tan signified the ability to vacation and sit idly in the sun, especially a tan in winter was valued as it meant a long trip. It surprises me sometimes that so many people don't realize that the majority of white people didn't have slaves or money, and worked just as hard as any person of colour.
Physical alterations in the name of beauty take place in all societies, most of them value the unobtainable.
White people when they worked outdoors valued pale skin, dark people valued straighter hair.
Fashions and styles change, I'm not sure why anyone would want orange skin, but there are many areas of human behavior which would seem to be contradictory
