Have you been able to find out any information about the disorder, like whether it is in deed genetic and what facts there are about carriers? That may help to put your mind at ease.

For example: My husband's oldest brother had just one daughter. She has Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. We found out that it is genetic, and that both parents do NOT have to be carriers to pass it along, just one cane be. We also were able to find out that if the disease presents itself in infantsy that is is commonly passed on by the mother, and if the disease presents itself in adulthood it is comonly passed on by the father.

Try to find some websites about the disease and see what info is out there. there may even be a message board to speak with people about it, if you and your fiance are too uncomfortable broaching the subject with your future brother-in-law

Good luck!!

Not necessarily, but htis should be brought up in conversation with your Dr.
