Link between MMR and Bowel Conditions and Seizures?!

Question: I have just read an official report on the MMR vaccine. I think that most people agree and this report says that there is no link between Autism and MMR, however I am concerned about recnt reports on a link between MMR and bowel conditions. My daughter has serious bowel complications, i wouldnt want to risk further complications, however slight the risk.

This report also states that febrile convulsions or seizures happen in 1 in every 1000 children, occuring between 6 - 11 days after vaccination.

This is an official report, why arent we informed of this when they have he vaccination?

My daughters condition is 1 in 500,000, so you can understand why i dont like the idea of her having the MMR with 1 in 1000 odds of seizures!

I understand your concern - however febrile seizures are not serious. In normal healthy children, febrile seizures occur commonly with a high fever; there are no long term effects from the seizure and children recover quickly.

There is no correlation between a febrile seizure and future seizures (epilepsy). It is just something that can happen with small children. The seizure is a result of a rapidly increasing fever -- I have treated children who have had a seizure (from the flu) at 101degrees F and who have had one at 103degrees. They all recover quite well.

I would talk to your doctor about your concerns.

It needn't be well-publicized because (1) the association is just that, and causality should not be inferred and (2) the risks of natural disease are greater than those of the immunizations. You don't get to choose a no-risk situation, only the higher risk of not vaccinating or the lower risk of vaccination. Such is life.
