Does gaining weight cause diabetes?!

Question: can losing weight get rid of it or do you have it for life?

Being overweight or obese DOES increase risk of diabetes and pre-diabetes (the stage with raised blood sugars but not at diabetic levels)

If you are diagnosed with either of these, losing weight will be of benefit and may mean

if u have pre diabetes, prolonging the time in which u do not develop the disease.

diabetes, means u would increase chance of not needing meds to control it.

im afraid the dude who said his friend reversed her diabetes is mistaken.

once a diabetic forever a diabetic but u can do so many thing to control it.

once u get pre diabetes, u may hold it off for years but u will eventually get diabetes.

im sorry but this is the fact.

Gaining weight can lead to diabetes if you are prone to it. If you have mild diabetes or are in the initial stages of the disease, losing weight often helps lower your blood sugar and avoid the need for medication.

Being overweight increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Many type 2's have been able to control it by loosing weight and eating balanced meals thus allowing them to stop needing meds for it.

Yes, that's why we now see a lot of grossly overweight teens with type II diabetes mellitus, especially in the US, which is new to the pediatricians. A diabetes epidemic is looming! This is because in the fat tissue a lot of active hormones are made, overweight people not only develop a fatty liver (which in time could cause inflammation and non alcoholic liver cirrhosis!), but also fat infiltration of the pancreas, which produces insulin, needed to regulate the bloodsugar level, and damaging the pancreas in the proces.

I know of a woman who was type two and lost a lot of weight and become non diabetic. So yes weight is a defenite factor in type 2 diabetes

Loosing weight does not get rid of it. But, it does help in controlling it better. i have known a few type II diabetics that were able to come off their medications and control it with diet alone after loosing 20+ lbs. Mind you, oral medications, not injectable insulins.
