Basically, one side of your nostril has a narrow passage. This causes the other nostril to over-work. Over-working in turn causes the nostril membranes to swell. This causes both nostrils to be blocked up (one swelled up, the other narrow passage).

Having the surgery will widen the narrow passage, thus allowing both nostrils to share the breathing load.

My brother had this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deviated_se...

I got that it helped some but not completly cuz you still have sinusitis you septum just won't be closing up your nasal passage as much because it will be straighter.

Expect to have two black eyes and alot of swelling after the surgery. Also you won't be able to taste your food because they stick a splint in your nose for a week or two to keep the septum straight and the swelling also closes off your nasal passages. Also whatever you do don't bump your nose after the surgery, I hit mine pretty hard and it was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life and I punched a hole in the wall and i ended up having to get the surgery again which sucked.
