Relief for a child with asthma?!

Question: My nephew has asthma and its gotten so bad that he has to use his rotahaler every night. My sister worries that her son might become immune to his medicine if he uses it every day. What else can we do to help my nephew during his asthma attacks without necessarily shoving his rotahaler to his mouth?

take him to a pediatric pulmonologist and get him the proper maitanence medications. The goal of maitanence (daily) medications is to acheive greatest control of the asthma with the lowest amount of medication, so that rescue inhalers only have to be used occasionally if at all.

ETA: eliminating dairy is an option, but research has shown that dairy only contributes to mucus if the person has an allergy or irritation to dairy products.

consult a doctor and tell them your concerns.
it will help.
my parents were worried about my sister too ><

i have a next door neighbour who has has terrible asthma and has ended up in hospital a lot of times but has never become immune from his drugs, i wouldn't worry.

get rid of all pets, do not wash his clothes in TIDE, move to a warmer climate , keep his room at a good temperature, keep room free of dust ,there are some pills my son use called singulair that his doctor gave him that are chewable that really helped him

My kids have asthma and they use the nebulizer. lt helps to dust-proof the house and no pets and pollens that can trigger the attack.

Ask the doctor about a nebuliser. My son has asthma and it helps.

when my son was younger man i was in and out od hospitals with him
first of all NO SMOKING what so ever go outside no aresole sprays
i had him on brething treatment and albertural i thought it would never end he is 20 now and has outgrown it Asthma for sure is nothing to play around with if not treated properly it will kill you
not habit forming when he has an asthma attack he has to have his inhaler it opens the broncule tubes in his lungs so he can breath that is why he wheezes hhis lungs airway is closed also log on to web md

I've heard of people having huge relief from asthma by eliminating dairy from their diet. Dairy causes mucus to build up in the system, and can aggrivate asthma. I figure, can't hurt--try it for a few weeks and see what happens. No milk, no cheese, no ice cream.

First thing is talk to your doctor about your concerns.

But, for immediate relief, if you think the problem is mucous, a good treatment is using cupped hands to lightly to moderately hit the back near the lung area. Yes I know that doesn't sound pleasant, but it works (it loosens the mucous). Helped me get through illnesses complicated by asthma :).

I don't know if they still use that technique in the medical world, but you could always ask about it.

Also, I find hot drinks can help at least a bit. They seem to clear and open up the airways.
