Wolff Parksins White??!

Question: The Doctor told my boyfriend that he should have this "procedure" on his heart to zap an extra electrail path way that should not be there. The sucess rate is high 95%-98% and it seems very simple they dont even have to put him asleep, day surgery. Bu t the thought of someone just zaping his heart scars the heck outta me, but once its done, its done no more worrying but if he does not have surgery he will always have it ( WPW) He actually does not want to have it done, I think he should BUT i dont want to convince him too much and then have something bad happen, id never forgive my self. I dont belive anything physics say but he was told that he will die at age 29 and he turn 29 this year. I cant stop worrying about it, They dont want to do it till May so its no hurry. so i have 3 question even if u answer 1 that will be great.
1. Did any one have this surgery done
2. Did anyone not hav it done that was asked too
3.What would u do

I feel terribly awful for your boyfriend that he is included in the .01-3% of the world who has this rare syndrome. I also have it and was diagnosed since 3rd grade (am now 24).
My cardioligist gave me the surgery option, it is a very safe surgery (as far as surgeries go) and yes, it is highly successful. The question is, how often does your boyfriend have these spells or attacks?? Does it SERIOUSLY interrupt his life?
I decided against the surgery, or the medication as my cardioligist explained how to control my attacks naturally.
Let me also point out, I am a very active person and I played many competitive sports at this time.

The natural ways of stopping attacks if interested -
the first way I was told never really worked for me, but I will still tell you as it's worth a shot.
1- crouch down as if sitting on an imaginary toilet.. holding your breath with all your might (mouth closed - almost as if you were blowing an air mattress up)
You can try this - if it helps it should in the first 3-5 mins.

And number 2 which ALWAYS works for me .. I HIGHLY recommend he try this.

Fill a sink or empty bucket with cold water and a tray or 2 of ice cubes. Hold breath forcefully and submerge head in ice cold water - continuing several times until heart slows down.
If done in a sink, it also helps to leave the tap running cold water on the back of the neck.

Also - just make sure he stops drinking caffienated beverages (i.e cola, coffee etc) or at least drinks no more than one a day. I am sure he has already been told this, but it is imperative to control the fast heart rate spells.

If either of these ways do not provide relief then he probably would want to get surgery or take the meds...

And what kinda BS Is that about dying at 29?? That is TOTALLY untrue.
Marilyn Manson has WPW and so do many pro athletes well over 29. I've had this for 15 years now and have been assured it is not life threating to any major extent. It can lead to heart failure, but WPW alone should not cause anyone death.

I hope I can shed some light on your options.... and best of luck to him. I am the healthiest now I have ever been and even though I still happen to have maybe 1 "attack" a year, I live an absolutely worry free life with no surgery or meds.

You spelled it wrong..Wolff Parkinson White syndrome...here is a link to an article..

There is a clinical trial for this that is recruiting now...it is based in Norway, but I don't know if you have to go there to do it or not...
