Cough Attacks.....Help!!?!

Question: I have had this horrible cough for 2 months. I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and he diagnosed me with bronchitis. He gave me Azithromycin. I took them as directed for 5 days. I have been off the anti-biotics for 9 days and I still have this terrible chronic coughing. The chough produces this yellowish phlem and it comes in attacks (for example i will go an hour without coughing, but then I will cough for 10 minutes non-stop) My muscles have been aching and have been really tired. Any idea, what it could be??? Any ideas are really appreciated.

Could be Asthma related or Allergies- I get the same kind of cough that sticks around for months. Or if you smoke it takes alot longer to recover from respritory illness. Otherwise- you might need another round of anti-biotics- ask for Levaquin this time around- its strong and will kick out any infection in your lungs. To help control your cough use cough drops and a cough syrup called Delsym- works like magic and tastes pretty good too! Sleep elevated with pillows, take a steamy hot shower and then just sit in the bathroom with hot hot water running and a window cracked open to make steam- it will help soothe your irritated throat and break up congestion. And drink plenty of fluids to help thin out the mucus. Or try guifensian- its an OTC cough expectorant. Good luck and hope you feel better!!

If you don't have asthma. One thing it could be is that it's not caused by your lungs but by you stomach. I worked at a clinic for 20 years and there was one man that would complain of cough attack. They ran just about every test known to man everything came back clear. after a while the doctor prescribed tagamet. That is a medicine usually used for reflux or gastritis. Come to find out it was the acid reflux that would cause this cough to come about and the phlegm wasn't really phlegm it was the acid from the stomach that would come back up. I know it kinda sound disgusting but it can be the same with you. I know tagamet now is over the counter. But probably any anti acid might work. Good luck :D
