Wha cause hearing loss?!

Question: there are two types of hearing loss--sensorineural ("nerve loss") and conductive. Sensorineural occurs when the hair cells in our cochleas die off--and don't grow back. It can occur from noise trauma, age, hereditary factors, viruses, ototoxic medications, and many other causes. Conductive is a mechanical problem of sorts, such as earwax blockage, ear infection, problems with the middle ear bones, etc. It is most commonly due to infection, trauma, or disease.

Listening to loud music: cause your ears drums damage.
And Age and Heriditory factors also play a part. ;-)

Deafness has many degrees of loss & many causes. old age, viruses, exposed to loud noise, loud explosions and German measles.
Defective conduction of sound into inner ear due to disorder in auditory nerves.

In my case, just being conceived.

Yes, I was born mostly deaf. I have about 30% of my hearing (not enough to really make a difference). I wear hearing aids, as I have all my life. With the aids, I can hear at about 75% of normal (whatever that is...I have never known). I do not know sign language, except for the alphabet and maybe 20 signs. I learned how to talk "normally" with intensive speech therapy. I read lips to some extent.

When I take my hearing aids out, I disappear into a world of near-silence. I can't hear a bird singing...or rain on the roof...or the wind blowing in the trees...I can't even hear my cat meow at me when she's hungry or my significant other telling me that dinner is ready.

I have to use close-captioning when I watch TV (I call it reading the TV because that's basically what I do). I have to use a phone that has a volume switch and is compatible with hearing aids. The house doorbell turns on a light. The smoke detector is a flashing strobe.

That's life...to some extent...for someone like me.
