Type Two turning into Type One?!

Question: I was sent a nasty message from another user when I informed them that type one is different from type two. They said their aunt turned into a type one after being a type two. I know that this is impossible, just as impossible as a type one turning into a type two. Yes, you may go onto insulin, but your treatment does not change your disease. Anyone want to give me a high-five for having to point this out, once again, to supposed nurses??

I agree with you 100%. You obviously know what you're talking about as type 1 and type 2 are different in the way they manifest themselves.

Type 1, as I'm sure you're aware is an autoimmune disease, meaning that your own body sees your pancreas, or more precisely the islets of Langerhans, as a foreign body and sets about destroying it/them. Type 2 develops due to the body's own cells becoming more resistant to the effects of insulin. Without insulin cells cannot utilise the glucose, present in the bloodstream, to produce energy. What happens is that the body literally 'starves' and must try to make energy in other ways. It is more noticeable in type 1 diabetics, but the utilisation of fat and muscle tissue to make energy is what happens.

Type 2s do NOT go on to develop type 1, nor vice versa. There are, however, some people who go on to develop both types of diabetes, though this is comparatively rare. (In the UK we refer to this as mixed, or combined diabetes.)

Anyway, I apologise for adding my bits of crap as I'm quite sure you already know what I've said.

You get a high five from me, and the person who sent you a nasty message gets a thumbs down. Sadly, there seems to be a lot of people commenting on things that they have absolutely no idea about on Yahoo! Answers. Still, it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

YEP! You would be 100%, absolutely totally correct!! But try not to let it worry you. I have only been on Yahoo questions for a few days and am AMAZED by what people post for answers!!!

I've heard that kids are getting type 2 now. It's rare, but it happens. So I guess it's possible that a kid who started out type 2 could get type 1 ... but then they would have both, right? I'm not sure. But it would have to be one of those super rare, freak occurrences. Also I heard about an older man who developed type 1 diabetes because he had thyroid problems ... he was 50 something. Now if he had type 2 before that, would that mean he turned into a type 1, or would he now have both? And again, another freak occurrence.

And anyway, you were right, no matter how they get them, the two are still completely different. AND - that person had no right to send you a nasty message right or wrong. Just use your delete button and don't worry about it. This is supposed to be fun, don't let anyone else ruin it for you!

ur absolutely right
i dont know why are ppl like that
if they are sick from helping ppl
JUST DONT HELP

ya u got my 5 I have a friend who is type 1 and ya she's different alright and makes sure I know it.

welll.. she might have had type two, but then her antibodies attacked her pancreas, and so she got also type 1.
theorically, it's not impossible.. you must be quite unlucky, though..
It's more probable that her glycaemia was not controllable, and so she got to get cured like type 1, with injection etc.

High 5. You are very correct!

After many years of type 2 diabetes, many of our pancreas' will actually stop producing insulin at all.
You will still have type 2[ insulin resistance ] along with no insulin production.

Yes yes. You are correct. Type 2 DOES NOT turn into type one. You may have to go on insulin for your type two diabetes.....but guess what??? It's pretty much your own fault because you haven't been watching your diet or haven't been educated properly on what foods to eat and what not to eat. I take insulin for my type TWO diabetes, but I expect to get off of it soon because I have been really watching my diet, and walking every day. I've already been taken off of the pills I had to take with the insulin.
People like to call themselves doctors and nurses, it makes them feel important. It's almost as bad as people telling other people you can't get pregnant if the man pulls out.
Good for you!!!

High five! Low five! on the side!<-----or is that not said anymore!?!

anyways, what I'm trying to get at is yes, I do agree with you 100%
