When you were told you had Cancer?!
Question: When you were told you had Cancer did you cry? freak out? go into shock? Or just sit calmly and ask questions? I ask this because when I was told I had inoperable Colon Cancer I did none of the above. I only asked the doctor if he could reverse my colostomy and got mad when he told me no. He then after a few days wanted to put me on depression meds and such because I had still not cried or freaked out. He was concerned when he came into my hospital room and my husband and I were playing UNO and laughing and talking. I was raised not to fear death but accept it if there was no alternative. I had alternatives such as chemo and radiation which has shrank my tumor to the size of a penny when it was 7 inches in diameter. I did not see me getting depressed and freaking as helping my husband and kids cope with my condition. He almost made me feel like I was wrong by not acting like a typical female and freaking and crying.

After I found out I had severe melanoma cancer, my son and I went bowling. After all, I did promise to take him.
I admire you for your strenght and courage. The Doctor told my mother she has breast cancer it been many years know the doctor say that she has Stage 4 Breast Cancer. My mother wasn't crying are upset, well I didn't see it. But I would cry in my room sometime, also I couldn't sleep. I still can't sleep, because it's hurt. I never knew Breast Cancer would be in my family, I didn't know it would affect someone who mean the Whole World to me. Know I am justing praying to god because he is the maker.
I was at work. I had left a message with my doctor that it was ok to tell me over the phone. We discussed surgeons and my doctor put me in touch with a very good one very quickly. As soon as I got off the phone I told my boss who lost his first wife to cancer and called my husband. I felt it easier to cope with the news by staying busy.
I don't think it was a shock since several types of cancer run. in my family. I am a celebrating 3 years cancer free.
I told a friend who is a Doctor about discomfort in my stomache, and he told me to come to his office.
He did an echogram on me and saw something weird right away. Then I went to a CAT scan, then the hospital for a biopsy and surgery.
Then I had 8 weeks radiation therapy for non-hodgkins lymphome, during which I lost 35 pounds and almost died from a cold.
Seven years later I'm still doing OK. (Gained the weight back to - and then some! Can do 120 pushups as well!)
I've been told I have cancer twice and I expect to be told the same thing yet again tomorrow. Whatever "freaked" means I'm pretty sure I haven't done it. I did get a bit misty with my husband recently because this 3rd time isn't going to be good. I haven't cried once. I think of myself as a typical woman.
Your doctor wants to know that you are not in denial of the seriousness of your condition. He may also want you to access some supports through the hospital social work department or other sources to help you and your family cope with the changes in your lives.
