that could be a side effect of the pulmicort but it is not a common one. Inhaled steorids usually will improve sleep because the child is able to get better REM sleep, since un or undertreated asthma interfers with sleep (and thereby also interfers with growth and appetite). That said
Let your doctor know...he may want you to try flovent via spacer instead (there are special spacers made for infants and they deliver the same amount of meds just as deeply into the lungs as a neb). Even though both flovent and pulmicort are inhaled steroids they have different compositions and sometimes one will work better or not cause the same side effects as the other.

also if he is not being seen by a pediatric pulmonologist ask for a referral. All infants on inhaled steroids should be seen for evaluation by a pediatric pulmonologist. Pedi's are good, but they are general doctors, that is what their training is in..general conditions and diseases of infants and children.. They do not specialize in serious pulmonological conditions, which is what asthma is..a serious life effecting, life limitting and potentially life ending condition.

a good source for reliable info on asthma is http://www.nationaljewish.org National Jewish in Denver is the #1 rated Hospital and Research Clinic for childhood respiratory conditions in the world.

Him not sleeping at night is probably not related to Pulmicort, is in on Pulmicort b/c he had RSV or Bronchiolits?, if so you need to continue the treatments as long as your pediatrician advised, as far as him not sleeping at night, it could be anything, he could be congested, he could be teething, he could have silent GERD or he wakes up out of habit, I would advise you make an appointment to talk to his dr. about your concerns, your his only voice, listen to him...Good luck!!

Pulmicort is commonly advised but not for too long. He may have nasal block which can be releived by decongestant drops and make him restful . Need more professional advice? as a pediatrician I will be glad to answer you . I may need more medical history. Feel free to contact.

No, I have no children. His sleeping problem COULD be from both. Talk to his doc about it. They can help you.
