Question #3: That's a matter of opinion. It's very subjective. You may not wish to experience adverse reactions to the med or you may feel that a shortened duration and less intense outbreak is worth the risk of possible reactions.
They're prescribed for cold sores and other things I'm sure. I get cold sores on my mouth when I'm stressed or sick. Taking acyclovir daily kept me from getting so many and when I did get one it went away a lot faster. It would stay smaller and never get into the swollen stage.
acyclovir is a viral suppressant, it was invented to treat AIDS.
it turned out not to do much for the HIV virus, but it does affect the herpes virus which causes cold sores. Now it is used to treat both oral and genital herpes. Be aware, it is hard on the internal organs, and should be used sparingly.
