As long as the bleeding has stopped and did not take more than like 10 minutes max to stop he should be fine overnight. Make sure that you clean out the cut with soap and lots of water or use hydrogen perioxide the perioxide will hurt more but it is a great antiseptic. Cover it with a clean bandage, keep him off of the foot, and watch for bleeding restarting, check his blood sugar more often because stress can either raise or lower blood sugar.

Get him into the doctor tomorrow just to make sure that there are no problems, and possibly get a perscription for a course of antibiotics to help prevent infection.

Why not call ER and ask them.

Usually diabetic have to be very, very careful of their feet.

I knew a guy who just cut his own toenails....he ended up being admitted into the hospital because of his diabetic feet.

How old is he, and what type of diabetes does he have? If he's young and hasn't had diabetes for long, you shouldn't have to worry about it too much diabetes-wise. But even with diabetes ... I think the big risk with a cut foot is gangrene, and I don't see him getting that overnight. Just make sure you take him in the morning. Maybe call ahead and let them know how he'll react when you bring him in, so they're prepared.

But I'm only talking about the diabetes part. If it's a bad cut and he keeps bleeding, you better take him in.

--edit--

If you call the ER, they will tell you to bring them in. Telling you not too would be a potential liability issue and they aren't going to risk it.

If you think there's the slightest chance his health is in danger, then you better take him in. No matter what anyone here says :o)

If its a minor cut, it won't be a problem overnight. If its a large cut and looks like it needs stitches, such as it won't stop bleeding and the like..then you might want to think about taking him. If you have to, call an ambulance to help transport him since he can be aggressive and they have a way of restraining him for his safety.

I'm not sure it's something you want to delay. Diabetes makes him not heal as quickly and an area like the foot is one of the worst. If at all possible I would go tonight. Of course it depends on the depth of the cut.

It depends on how serious the cut is, and what he cut himself with. If the cut is relatively shallow, make sure to clean it out with plenty of soap and water, then cover it with a clean bandage. You might put on some antibiotic ointment, as long the cut is not too deep.

If the cut is more moderate, make sure to apply pressure over the wound and elevate the limb to stop any bleeding. Clean the wound as above. As long as the bleeding stops, you can probably manage it at home. However, if the bleeding doesn't stop or the cut is very deep, you should consider taking him to urgent care for stitches.

Make sure he has had a tetanus shot within the past 10 years. Keep an eye on the wound. If it starts to ooze pus, smell very foul, his foot starts to swell, or he develop fevers over the next few days you should seek medical treatment for a possible infection.

your brother has the right to get medical attn. don't worry about his behaviors. call your local hospital for advice and guidance then follow it. i am diabetic and lost half of my left foot due to infection. for your brother's sake don't wait. good luck.

Call his doctor. He should know what is going on and can tell you if he should be seen in the ER. How deep was his cut? And did it stop bleeding? Call his Dr or the Er??

Maybe it will help if you give him some tea or coffee. That calms autistic children down.
