Planned parenthood question?!

Question: if it's confidential then why do they ask for your name, phone number, address, and social security number? who do they give that information to??

also, how much does it cost for STD tests???

thank you all.

Std testing at planned parenthood is VERY costly, I believe you pay for individual tests such as herpes, chlamydia and so on. You will be much better off to find out when your local health department does std testing, its free, confidential, and if you do have anything, medication from the clinic is significantly cheaper.

They don't give that information to anyone; it's only for their records, so they can keep track of your medical records in their filing system. The phone number and address are probably in order to contact you for emergencies and that type of thing.

Not sure on the $$ for STD testing.

They have to have this info in case they have to contact you or report you to the state for a certain class of disease. Also they have to graph the area to see how much disease or unplanned pregnancy, etc is in that area to report to the state, region or country. It is also needed so they don't misidentify your results with anyone elses. I wouldn't want that to happen. It is just to keep everything in a certain order. If not, everyone would come in anonymously then how would they know who to contact.

first it is confidential actually anything with medicine is confidential. This is due to HIPAA. The reason they ask that info if one for identification and also for their studies. Most times you can go to a clinic and get STD tests for free, or if you have insurance will cost whatever your co-pays will charge for it, and every insurance company is different. I think Planned parenthood does them for free, but I am not completely sure. Also sometimes with the info depending on state, they have HIV and AIDS tracking, and yes it is legal.

This is only for your medical records. They can't tell anyone anything without your permission.

i don't know about planned parenthood----u can go to ur local health clinic and they test for most diseases for free and also give u free condoms---for oral u can use saran wrap on ewither partner---the oral is just as good and doesn't have bad taste like condoms

It's for their records. It's important so that they can keep track of people and that they give the results to the right person. the price is based on income if you call them they will give you an estimate bring your bank record with you when you get tested thats how they figure out how much bank records and pay stubs.
Take care and get tested also many local health departments give the same test and medication for FREE! so call the local health department and see if they have a free std/sti clinic in your area. Get tested and stay safe...
