OK guys, I have had oral herpes ( herpes 1). It is not herpes II.
Everyone who has had chicken pox as a kid carries the virus. It is a "cousin" virus to chicken pox. The one answer that said no ,you cannot contract this type of herpes by kissing her when she she is clear, is right.
I have dealt with this since I was a teenager (a very long time ago):) i have been married 31 yrs and had a daycare for mostly infants for 14 years ,and no one including my daughter, developed herpes as cold sores are called now.
No--don't kiss her when she has an outbreak. She needs to be very careful and use good hand-washing esp then.
I can give you some advice that might help her.
1. get some stuff from the Dr.an anti fungal
2. take the amino acid lysine at the first itch or indication of a beginning sore. I take a lot (like 2000 units 4x`s a day ) but that's me,.go to a health food store and ask about dosages.
3. use tea tree oil at the first sign of an out break.

Sometimes mine didn`t even start, or they were over within 3 days or so.AND they keep the itching and throbbing way down.
I didn't just get the little round ones, I have scars from years back when we didn't have much to treat them with.
So kiss her well when shes clear!!!
Good Luck !!
p.s. she could take lysine as a preventitive every day if she wanted but check with a naturopathic Dr. or a good book on alternative therapies.
pps. It is not an STD!!

nope. Herpes is spreadable even when there is no signs of an outbreak. However, it is less likely to contract it with no signs of an outbreak.. and SHE can take medication to lower her outbreaks. Other than that, no, and you'll probably get it if you date her for a prolonged period of time.

The only time you'll contract this type of virus is when she's having an outbreak (providing it's simplex 1). They did develop an inoculation a few years back, but I don't believe that it's been approved as of yet. And there are no effective topical preventative agents I've heard of as of yet.

herpes canhave a period where cells containing the herpes virus are sloughed off and are still infectious, if you kiss her, regardless of whether she is having an outbreak or not, you are taking a chance on being infected. There is presently no vaccine or preventative for preventing the spread of the herpes virus.

i wouldnt advice you too kiss her... you need doctors advice about that... i would think hard about that.... call a doctor who knows about that and ask him questions......

Even in its dormant stages, herpes is communicable.

There is a small risk of catching her cold sores even when she doesn't have an outbreak, she will be infectious about 10% of the time.

The biggest thing to be careful about though is her giving you oral sex, because it is possible to catch genital herpes this way. Cold sores on the mouth are not considered such a big deal if you do catch them.

I caught genital herpes through receiving oral sex from a partner with cold sores - when he didn't have one. However, we had been together 7 years.

No, if she were to take valtrex as daily suppressive therapy it would halve the risk, but not prevent it, and it is incredibly expensive.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about it very much. The love of a good woman is worth a few cold sores.
