I have 3 holes in each ear and a cartilage pierce in one. I have a low threshold for pain so all of them hurt to me, but not enough to discourage me from having them done and it was years between each one. I think it depends on your tolerance for pain. I had the cartilage pierce done at the Piercing Pagoda in the mall with no problems. It took longer to heal, but that is to be expected.

Man.......I was misled by the first part of your question!!
You mean in the ear? Ear piercings all feel the same until you get to the cartilage - then it's a coin toss. They can either hurt like hell or not so bad. If you ever choose to get into the cartilage, make sure you go to a body piercing place - my sister had it done at Clair's or salon or something and they used a gun - the same type used for regular piercings - and they broke the cartilage.
Apparently, piercing gun can SHATTER cartilage and cause massive scar tissue, ear deformities and other unpleasantness.
