Does this bleeding last for longer than seven days at a time? It sounds like a condition called menorrhagia, which is excessive (heavy) and/or prolonged bleeding. There are a multitude of conditions which may cause menorrhagia, and SOME (note, not all) of these conditions can be: a hormonal imbalance, uterine polyps, uterine fibroids, medications you may be taking, and/or medical conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), thyroid conditions, etc. Rarely is it caused by cancer, though this may be a symptom.

It is important that you get yourself to a doctor to receive a proper diagnosis and treatment. Menorrhagia, if not treated can lead to iron deficiency anemia from excessive or prolonged blood loss, which if not treated can become severe enough to be life-threatening.

A few years back my mother started having problems with bleeding. She assumed that bleeding so heavily and so frequently was just a result of her nearing menopause (50 was creeping up on her). After experiencing heavy bleeding for almost two months on end, then some moderate bleeding almost as frequently for several months after, she decided to consult a doctor because she was constantly feeling weak and fatigued. Her doctor ran some tests, concluded that she was suffering from a hormonal imbalance, performed a D&C, and then promptly prescribed her an iron supplement. She was severely anemic.She was told that her hemoglobin should have been between 12 and 16 g/dL, hers was just bordering 10 and was told that if she had waited longer she most likely would have needed a blood transfusion.

How often you should have a Pap smear performed depends on your age. Typically, if you are under the age of 30 you should have a Pap every year, and once every two or three years if you are 30 years of age or older and have never had abnormal test results. But if a woman has any medical conditions that could be an issue, such as cervical cancer (or even a genetic predisposition to cancers), conditions that can compromise the immuse system (HIV exposure, radiation therapy or organ transplant, etc.) she should be tested anually. Once a woman reaches her sixties and seventies testing may stop with a doctor's approval.

My suggestion is to visit your doctor to find your answer. There is no sense worrying yourself over what it might be, because of what people on here might tell you. If it's something minor, your doctor will help set you on a course of treatment. If it's something more serious, it's better that you get it diagnosed without delay. The earlier you seek a professional medical opinion, the easier it is to treat and the more favorable your prognosis. I wish you well.

See a doctor now!? Its not necessarily cancer but you may need minor surgery?

doctor

You should see a doctor...you may have fibroids in your uterus that should be removed...or it could be something else...either way you shuold go see a doctor before it gets worse.

Go to the doctor immediatly!!!
You are supposed to have a Pap yearly...Now with google you can really get yourself going and have every sympton on earth.....I have had friends that If they had gone yearly....they would still be alive.

You have not given full details about you. In my opinion you should be attaining menopause and hence you are having the irregular bleeding. If you are about 50 years old then it may be so. Please therefore watch out for the symptoms of Menopause which are -

The signs and symptoms of menopause, however, often appear long before the one-year anniversary of your final period. They include:

* Irregular periods
* Decreased fertility
* Vaginal dryness
* Hot flashes
* Sleep disturbances
* Mood swings
* Increased abdominal fat
* Thinning hair
* Loss of breast fullness

However you can not take things for granted and you have to once again ensure by a pap smear that you are not having cervical cancer. If you have cervical cancer the bleeding will not continue for months together and you will find other symptoms. The symptoms of Cervical cancer are -

You may not experience any cervical cancer symptoms
