You could try gargling with salty water

garggle with salt water and sip honey lemon tea.

Both other answers are correct plus using tylenol or ibuprofen on a regular basis and running a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep.

Gargle with mouthwash a couple times a day to kill the germs. Drink hot tea with honey. Drink a shot of whiskey to clear it if its particularly scratchy and painful. Eat ice cream, yogurt, soft cold things like that.

gargle with cayenne pepper mixed with a little bit of water every 15 minutes or so. guaranteed to work unless you have strep.
