The baby might be big at birth and be born with a lowered blood glucose level and need breast milk ASAP.

It depends on what type of diabetes she has.

looking at the situation, i would say its gestational diabetes, the diabetes that ocurs in pregnancy alone. it wasnt there before, though there may have been pre diabetes. it increaes her risk of develpoing full diabetes post pregnancy.

risks are that the baby can grow quite large, and it can be a difficult birth due to that. im not sure of other risks. but it *is* serious.

she will have to test her blood sugars, and perhaps have to take injected insulin, which helps to stabilise blood sugars.

she will most likely be referred to a dietitian, who will advise her of the best way to control her blood sugars and keep them in the regular range. It mainly involves avoiding sugar and refined sugary foods, while sticking to a healthy balanced diet.

good luck. i hope it helps and dont freak the girl out. she may not need insulin for definate.

you could die also if you are fat and eat to much sugar and salt in your food also if you have diabetesthere is a chance you could develop heart disease

If she is type 2 diabetic she does need to take insulin, but please consult your doctor as answering here won't help. She needs to take good care of herself and her unborn baby.
