Stomach/Acid issues? Any idea? Can anyone relate?!

Question: I am going to see a doctor this next week, but I am a little scared (My Ocd/Anxiety says CANCER lol)... and I wanted to know if any of you could relate or have any idea what my problem might be.

I have been under a lot of stress for a few months now... with my family, most of it being financial issues. I also work full-time and go to school full-time. I have a lot of anxiety as well.

These past few months I have noticed some issues with my stomach area/upper abdomen.

I often get this acidic feeling in the back of my throat and almost down my chest, usually when I have been laying down.

When I eat something, I feel naseous (sp?) and sick almost every time, which is unusual. I also always seem to have this unusual "fullness" feeling in my stomach. Like my stomach is full when I haven't been eating anything... It's uncomfortable.

This acidic feeling/bad breath... and uncomfortable full-feeling in tummy along with discomfort...? =(

I believe we share the same stomach. It sounds like you have acid reflux or GERD. Your doctor will probably prescribe a proton pump inhibitor or recommend one from over the counter. Mine gets worse with anxiety and stress too - so does my husbands. Your doctor may also order some tests to rule out an ulcer depending on your specific situation and family and medical history. A few tips - eat small meals at regular times, limit caffeine especially coffee and cola, limit foods with a lot of fat or processed sugars especially high fructose corn syrup, drink lots of water and do not eat late in the evening before you go to bed. You might also try elevating the head of your bed. I know it can feel like you are dying, but you aren't! But do follow up with the Dr, GERD can cause long term damage if left untreated for years. Until your appointment the pharmacist should be able to help you find something OTC to give you some temporary relief. Good luck!

Sounds like some simple GERD to me. Nothing to worry about, that can be cured with some simple OTC meds.

I certainly have no medical training whatsoever - so please do go ahead and see your doctor - for sure!

However, I am married to someone with ALL the same issues. and it is merely gas. Don't take the "merely" wrong. I know how horrible it can be. It can feel like a heart attack, it can feel like a life threatening issue.

Some things that have helped....
avoid gassy food (beans, etc)
don't drink alcohol
eat bland non-spicy foods
and - although I know it is hard - avoid stress.

Stress does horrible things. I know. Twice I got cancer about a year after VERY stressfull situations in my life.

Go to the doctor and be very careful what you eat. Try to find relaxing things to do to combat all the stress - even if it is only going for a walk or sitting in front of a fireplace...ANYTHING.

Take care.

Wow this is so weird!!!! I am going to a doctor this next week about my stomach too, lol! Yeah, and I'm scared I have cancer, too. I'm just paranoid and stressed out. You sound like you have either an ulcer, gastritis, or acid reflux disease. That's why I'm going to the doctor. They think I have acid reflux, but I don't really have heartburn. Just stomach pain. Well, I hope that helped you feel a little better! You're not the only one worried! I hope everything goes okay!

Reflux, use and extra pillow at night. Chew gum during the day. Meds if necessary. Just wait till pregnancy...

Sounds like an ulcer.
Or it could be H-pylori, a bacteria that is in the stomach that can cause ulcers as well.
When you see the doctor ask for the H-pylori test. They can do a blood test (is the easiest) or a H-pylori breath urea test.
If you are positive for it you will go on a 3 dose prev-pack, which has antibiotics, prevacid and sometimes a 4 pack which also includes, I believe pepto-bismuth pills. Just taking the pepto doesn't kill the bacteria, it lives in the muscle wall of the stomach.
Our stomachs have bacteria naturally. The one that causes H-pylori isn't a natural for our stomachs.
I know how you are feeling, I went through it for a long time before they figured out what it was and I had to ask for the test.
There is a link, read it, but don't!!!!! read too much into it.
Good Luck!

Looks like a case for Nexium or Prilosec, a daily pill to reduce stomach acid.

Get tested for the bacteria causing stomach and gastrointestinal ulcers. If the results are positive, 4 weeks of antibiotics should take care of it, followed by a minimum of 3 months of Nexium or Prilosec to reduce stomach acid.

Anxiety can lead to ulcers. Relax.

Ulcers do come back. 40% of Americans adults are chronic carriers. The bacteria causing ulcers can be transmitted through a kiss.
