Liver damage?!

Question: if you took alot of tylenol over a long period of time and stopped taking it would your liver most likely heal itself, especially if you showed no signs of damage?

It would be best to go to the doctor and
have him do blood tests every so often
just to be sure no damage was done.
The reason I am stating this...is because
the liver doesn't always show symptoms
of inflammation developing in it until the
functions that the liver cells do become
impaired. You may have no signs of
damage known to you...many people are
walking around not knowing they even
have a liver problem cause the liver is
a very quiet organ as far as showing
a problem. You do not say how much
Tylenol you took for for exactly how long.
If you only took what was the recommended
dosage on the box and you are not
sensitive to this drug...you should be okay.
However, if you exceeded this amount...
it is best to have your blood work done just
to see if there are any rise in the liver
enzymes or changes in the functions of
the liver cells. Inflammation caught early
on can be treated with other medications
so that the inflammation goes away and
does not go on to cause more problems.
The stopping of Tylenol, which may be
the cause of this, will also help the liver to
heal. Not all people are sensitive to
tylenol, just as not all people are sensitive
to developing cirrhosis because of alcohol
consumption...but it is best to be sure.

Hope this is of some help.

It should.
Anyway, stopping the drug is the best you can do.
Good luck!

You have to define what is a lot of tylenol over a long time means. If you took 4 grams of tylenol every day your liver will be absolutely fine assuming you have no other medical problems complicating this whole picture. On the other hand, if you consumed 12 grams of tylenol at once, that may be enough to cause you to go into liver failure. If you think you overdosed on tylenol go to the ER immediately because there is a drug that can be used to help stop the damage tyelol has done. IF you have just been taking the recommended dose: no more than 4 grams per day, ur prolly fine

As long as you don't have any other liver problems, like hepatitis C or other liver diseases, your liver should be able to heal itself. Best wishes.
