Question: I was wondering if anyone knows if diabetes can suddenly 'start' because some of the symptoms I think I have but its really abrupt like not progressing at all just suddenly gotten bad. I'm really thirsty and hungry and such but idk. Also it has occured a few times in my family. Maybe I'm just being stupid please help!

Yes, diabetes can suddenly start, and at any age, especially if it has occured in your family before since some types are genetic. Suddenly your body can become basically immune to your insulin which is the stuff that breaks down sugar in your body. Some symptoms are: Very thirsty and hungry, pee a lot (polyuria), and your pee may smell kind of fruity because of a weird thing that happens with protein in your body if you have diabetes. You should definitely go to the doctor as soon as possible even if you only have a few symptoms.

I have had some patients with symptoms subtle enough to be disregarded. They then come in and find out they are diabetic.
You seem concerned, NOT stupid. It wouldnt hurt to go see a physician and have your fasting blood sugar taken and explain to him the symptoms you have been experiencing. I say, "better safe than sorry".

I have been diabetic for 16 years, my first red flag was telling my mom.. I need to eat now!! right now. the 2nd flag was when I was visiting my dad 4 the weekend (dads diabetic also) i drank a gallon of apple juice in less than 15 minutes, water like at least 2 gallons of water in less than an hour, & was using the restroom about every 10-15 minutes. your not being stupid. please get yourself checked, for type 1, type 2,
hypo & hyperglycemia. you may want to even get a glucose tolloarnce test. talk to your g.p doctor please this disease is nothing to mess around w/ but can be well controlled

Yes, it can suddenly start: it happened to me two years ago: I was always thirsty, hungry... I was eating a lot but losing weight. And I was always tired.

.No. diabetes does not suddenly start. But, the "symptoms" can. Usually, by the time the symptoms appear, you have had diabetes for a while.
Diabetes develops over a period of time due to different factors, according to the type.
