What are the alternatives to taking Statins!?!

Question: 1. Omega 3 and other EFA's... essential fatty acids found in Salmon, Tuna, Flax seed, and elsewhere... search the web. Also you can take a Fish Oil Supplement found in any drug store.

2. Soluable Fiber: make sure you eat enough fruits, vegetables, and grains... fiber removes the cholesterol from your blood stream.

3. Exercise: this will increase your HDL which is the good cholesterol that protects against Coronary Artery Disease. and also lowers the LDL, which is the bad cholesterol.

4. Diet: you probably already know by now what to eat and what not to eat... keep an eye on your Triglyceride levels and cut back on saturated fat... for instance switch to skim milk instead of whole milk.

5. Aspirin: some doctors may recommend that you take a baby 81 mg aspirin every day to reduce your risk of having a stroke or heart attack ( from high cholesterol ).

6. Surgery: If you eventually develop a blockage due to atherosclerosis (this is the plaque that builds up in arteries from high cholesterol), you will end up having to get surgery such as CABG ( coronary atery bypass graft ).

7. Quit smoking and Drinking alcohol: Both constrict arteries which make it difficult to pump the blood through... especially blood that is full of fatty deposits.

Good Luck to you,
Nurse Angie
