Is there really a cure?!

Question: for depression, other then medication?

Answers: for depression, other then medication?

Depression may be exogenous or endogenous.
Exo. depression is result of some sad event. It usually heals by time and support of the relatives/ friends.
Endo. depression is without any cause and is controlled (not cured) by medicines. Of course psychological support will help in minimizing the medicine requirement, it can't replace medicine totally.

Yes there is. Therapy with a good therapist, and hard work on your part. If you are in school, your health center can direct you to the right place.

My suggestion, if you can, is to start with someone trained in Cognitive therapy or Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) first. Such therapists will teach you skills that can give you some relief within 20 sessions.

If you need more than that, find the best therapist you can (research by: asking friends, colleagues, the web), and work hard. A good therapist for clinical-level depression will have (i) a PsyD (not PhD) degree, (ii) lots of experience (10 plus) and (iiI) experience with trauma. A good therapist will also teach you coping skills to get through the worst moments of depression.

I recommend these parameters because such individuals usually have good experiential (clinical, rather than research) training, know how to keep good boundaries, know their own issues so they don't interfere with your therapy, will be able to teach you coping skills, and maintain a good pacing.

Lots of past events and present day life circumstances can cause depression. The winter is a time of depression for some people.

Good luck!
