I crave sugar with migraines?!

Question: I want sugary foods like crazy. I take Relpax for migraines, and I think I crave sugar more after I take this. What does my body really want? I crave soda, candy, cake, you name it. I know it's not good, so I don't eat all these things :) but I really want to. Actually, I ate 2 donuts w/ my last migraine :O Okay, plus 3 packs of fruit snacks. :O

It's not uncommon. It has a lot to do with your hormone levels. A friend of mine used to have that problem so she started taking the birth control pill that gives you four periods a year. She just started on it so we'll see if the migraines come back soon.

Maybe instead of eating processed sugar you could try fruits and yogurt. I know it sounds weird, but there's a lot of sugar in them and it might help if it's a naturally occurring sugar rather than an added one. Some processed sugars actually increase pain, so be careful.

There are also great energy drinks (I love Boost, it's delicious) that might help you even out the sugar levels and that would help your body create more serotonin which would, in turn, combat the pain you feel. You could try Glucerna too. It's made for diabetics and other people would need to control their sugar intake. It might help you satisfy your sweet tooth without throwing your sugar levels through the roof.
