Cholesterol help?!

Question: i've been having chest pain since the beginning of january for some unknown reasons. i had an ultra sound of my chest, xray, blood and urine test, and that stress test thing...but everything came out normal except my blood tests....my cholesterol level is 173 (which is normal the doc said) my LDL cholesterol level is 100 and my HDL cholesterol level is 32.....BUT my triglyceride level shot up to 206...which he said was high. and i don't understand because triglycerides are made from the excess of carbs i dont use..or whatever it is. but i'm 6'1'' and weigh 165 and i'm 17...so it's not like i'm overweight or old when these kindda probs happen. my glucose was normal..it was 80 i think. does anyone know what the risks of having high triglycerides are? and the doctor doesn't knoweither it's from a rib out of place or can it be from my crap for a diet? i've never had this problem before. what kind of diet can lower the triglycerides? any website i can look at that deals with this problem?

High Triglycerides is not good for anybody of any age... it predisposes you to Coronary Artery Disease / Heart Disease later in life...

It most commonly comes from eating foods too high in SATURATED fats... and also can come from consuming too many calories in carbohydrates which are then converted to Triglyceries and stored in your fat cells to be used a later time when energey is needed.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Keep a healthy weight... since you are already a healthy weight... keep it that way!
2. Exercise and continue to stay active.
3. Cut back the Saturated Fat.... this is the most important. Saturated fats are found in animal foods such as Bacon, Hamburger, Whole Milk, Butter, Sausage, ect...
4. Replace it with the good for you fats such as mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fats found in Olive Oil, Canola Oil, Nuts, and Fish... these will improve your cholesterol levels.
5. Omega 3 fatty acids are a good substance which lowers cholesterol... they are found in fish such as Salmon, Mackerel, Tuna, Trout, and Sardines... If you dont want to eat fish, you can take a Fish Oil Capsule Pill that is sold at any drug store.
6. Soluble Fiber... increase your vegetables... or take a fiber supplement such as Metamucil.
7. Dont Drink Alcohol..... this is very important because even a small amount of alcohol will make your Triglycerides high.
8. Dont Smoke... it constricts your arteries and decreases circulation, which is hard on your heart.
9. Educate yourself... study up on the different types of fats...
Some buzzwords for you to search include : Saturated Fat, Hydrodgenated Oil, Trans Fat, Mono unsaturated fat, Poly unsaturated fat, and Essential Fatty acids such as Omega 3 or Omega 6.

Good Luck to you,

The short answer is, yes, you're crappy diet is probablt responsible.

You're too young for them to think you could actually have blocked arteries, so they won't do an angiogram, the only certain way to see your arteries' condition.

Triglycerides will drop if you get off your butt and get some exercise every day, even just a long walk at a good but not too fast pace. 30 minutes everyday. More than that, and they'll come down even more.

If your diet is really bad, and you get a lot of stress, you could have bad arteries already. Get your act together, so your parents don't have to decide on a coffin for you in the next few years.
