Am I allergic to Grapefruit?!

Question: I have eaten grapefruit throughout my life and have recently noticed that when I eat it my tongue goes numb. This also happens if im peeling the grapefruit and juice gets on my skin or if I smell the grapefruit and even if I drink grapfruit juice that isnt 100% juice. I can still eat it and nothing else happens. Is this a minor allergy?

It sounds like you majorly correct and may build up to a point that you cannot breath or your tongue swells and you choke.

I had the same thing with shrimp and it was little symptoms at first then one night; my eyes were slits and my nostrils were gone and my face and head swelled and hives were all over my upper body. I went to the allergist and they said I was allergic to crustaceans(shrimp, lobster, shell fish, Bermuda grass, cats, feathers, etc) The allergist put me on allergy shots and so I asked; when could I eat shrimp again? He said; when did I want to die?

Wow! Serious stuff! In the mean time; Take your allergy seriously and don't eat grapefruit or touch it. See the allergist too! You may be allergic to more than that fruit and may not be ready for another fruit or nut that goes in your mouth! He may prescribe an epi-pen too!

You also may risk heart attack or suffocation or shock and die!

i dont think so. it is just a reaction from the acidity of the grapefruit. it happens to me too sometimes. all i did is after eating grapefruit dont drink water or any liquids. let it settle for about 15-30 mins.

Sounds like your allergic to me..I would consult a doctor though to see if you need to quit eating it..Your body changes through the years and though its a minor allergy now it could change into a more severe one.

Grapefruit is known to interact negatively with certain
medications. If you take anything, even an OTC drug,
forego the grapefruit.

I have citric acid allergies myself, you either grow out of it or you learn not to eat thnigs with citric acid
