Allergy shot question?!

Question: Is allergy shot same thing as steroid that athletes use or is it different type of steroid or not a steroid at all?
I am experiencing an awful allergy symptoms, and it's killing me. Even the Claritin-D won't help me. I heard people get allergy shots for over 2 years to permanently treat their allergy. I also heard some people take steroid for their allergy and it relieves their allergy instantly for up 'til a month.
I need to treat my allergy badly. But I don't want to get on long term allergy shots. I just want one time treatment like that steroid, if its true. Any clue? Anything advice is appreciated.

I don't think there is a steroid shot that will get rid of your allergies instantly for a month. I get two allergy shots a week and in about two weeks I could tell the difference. I have been on them for five months now and it is worth it. I am able to play sports outside without any problems from the grass or pollen, whereas before I was having to OD on benadryl to keep my eyes from watering enough to see. Why don't you want the long-term shots? Many people after a couple of years are CURED, meaning no more allergies or shots. I personally think it is worth the time. If not, there are many stronger allergy medicines that a doctor or allergist can prescribe.

Allergy shot and steroid shots are two different things that have two different effects.

Allergy shots are mixed just for you, and administered in small doses to help your body adjust to allergens. See an allergist or go to your regular doctor and they can help find what it is you're allergic to, and give you some prescription meds that will work a lot better than over the counter stuff.

Steroids have nothing to do with allergies.

What are you allergic to? If its an air born irritant like mold, dust pollen, pet dander, mildew or smog-you can cure it by taking a teaspoon of local honey each day. You must get honey made within 50-100 miles of your house to be effective. It works with the body to develop immunities and has no side effects Or long term organ damage like antihistamines or decongestant nose sprays. These will dry out your body and cause problems like sinus infections and kidney failure. If you take a teaspoon a day, after a month or so, you will notice that your allergies are going away and you get less cold and flu symptoms also. Try curing your health problems NATURALLY-your body will thank you over the years.

As you have already been told, allergy shots and steroids are 2 different things. But just FYI, Claritin-D has never helped me in the least. Go to your doctor and get a prescription antihistamine-decongestant. I use Allegra-D, and life in Texas is so much easier than when I was trying to treat my allergies with over the counter Claritin-D.
