Ever hear of neuropathy? It is when nerves are damaged because of a disease. In you case, the disease is diabetes.

This is very common in diabetics, especially those who have had the disease for quite sometime. I am going to assume you have juvenile diabetes, or Type 1, since neuropathy is found mainly in this type. You can have neuropathy in Type 2, but it is rare.

Your phrenic nerve can be damaged. If you have not been in any kind of accident, one that incurred a lot of internal damage, then it is safe to say it is diabetic related.

You can do some internet searching and find articles and medical journals that are related to the issue.
