Why is office air so dry?!

Question: I know the air is generally drier in the winter, but my house is around 32% right now, without any humidifiers or anything going, and my office is 18-20%. Furthermore, when i run my humidifier, even on low, in my 10x12 room, it raises to around 40-42%; when i run it on high in my 9x9 office, however, the humidity only raises to like 20/21%. This seems ridiculous, that a room 50% smaller would not react to a humidifier on full blast, with the door closed, all day long. It makes me think they're actively dehumidifying the air, which seems ridiculous to me. I've read that levels like this are not healthy. Anyways:
1. why is office air so dry in general?
2. why would my humidifier barely affect it in such a small room?
3. Is there anything else I can do to make it more tolerable? (I have lots of sinus problems, etc.)

thanks

air conditioning systems in offices are on steroids and are very good at circulating air, heating/cooling, and removing moisture in the process.

we might ask why in the name of conservation an office has to have the a/c on in the wintertime. shouldn't they just set the heat point down a degree or two?

becuase the boss doesn't care about you

just buy a personal size humidifier and put it on your desk

Central heating makes room air dry, humidifiers don't generally work. So sorry about that, your boss can't do anything about it.

you could try an OTC nasal saline spray to help with th dryness.....can't think of much else right now, sorry.
