My father is in a nursing home in the dementia ward . . .?!

Question: Its not that he is that demented but he keeps trying to get out. He is 93 years old and everytime I go to visit, his things are packed in bags at the door that looks like a bookshelf. He obviously knows that its a door and not a bookshelf but its locked. He made my brother cry the last time he went there because he wanted him to take him out and, of course, he cant. I, who took care of him for ten years since my mother died, come up with excuses but im running out. He really cant take care of himself and he is more than a full time job for me. My son has bipolar and its just a matter of time before the other shoe drops. My husband does NOTHING except bark orders, complain, nag and baby his cat named babygirl. Will my father ever stop trying to get out????

yikes, that is tough. I wish I hard some great advice for you...but I think you should talk to someone who works at the nursing home. Can they do something to make his stay there more comfortable? Or maybe offer you advice on how to handle that situation?
As for your husband...what is his deal? that cat thing...complaining, nagging etc..that would not fly with me. Give him the altametum (sp?) ... either he gets a hold of himself..or you get out!
