General diabetic question?!

Question: I have yet to get my diabeties under controll, I nned to know why it is that if my sugar gets below 150 I feel horrible? I feel shakey and sleepy, my sugar runs around 288, 229. I have started walking 3 miles a day, is this enough excersise? I have 6 weeks to get it under controll, or it will be insulin for me. I don't eat sweets, heck I really don't eat alot of anything. Any help would be good.

First off, don't be overly fearful of the insulin injections. I was scared to death of them before I had to do them. The needles are very thin, and the injections are done subcutaneously. You can hardly feel them.

You are doing a pretty good job with three miles a day of exercise. Most experts recommend about one hour of vigorous walking. For me, that comes out to about 4 miles a day.

I'd also recommend some weight lifting. To make a long story short, muscle mass is a prime determinant of your metabolism. Good muscle mass means that you are burning calories even when you aren't actively exercising. Joyce Vedral has some good weightlifting books for women. The point isn't to look like the professional body builders but to just tone your muscles and get your metabolic rate up.

My guess is that you blood sugar has been so high for so long that part of what is happening is that as your blood sugar aproaches normal, that sugar buildup in your insterstitial fluids is drawing fluid osmotically toward the higher sugar concentration, causing your blood pressure to drop.

If you don't get your blood sugar down before six weeks, cooperate with your doctor. He will probably put you on some kind of basal dose of insulin that you will give yoursef once a day, and then a short acting insuline to use at meals. Just keep working on your exercise plan and your diet. Lots of people have been able to get away from their diabetes medications after they have started. But if you need them, take them. They will save your live and your health.

Are you taking any other meds - like metformin?

Eat at the same times each day and watch your carbs closely. Check with your Doctor or nutrionist to see the best carb options for you. Stay away from fruit for now and keep alog of what you eat and see if you can figure out what is causing the spikes. Good luck !!!!!

stay away from carbs, eat three meals a day.write to or email the american diabetes association and they will send you information. personally i would go on the atkins diet, many people have gotten rid of their so called diabetes that way and cut their meds in half or totally dont meed them anymore. it is worth a shot. you do not want to be insulin dependent. try atkins first.stress elevates your blood sugar and so does illness and infection. keep exercising. check your blood sugar when you feel shaky. if you are below 150 and shakey, eat a cracker and some peanut butter. the problem with this is most people hurry upand drink a bunch of sugar to raise their blood sugar, dont do that . over time, your body will be accustomed to 150.keep exercising but not too much. i would try atkins. alot of people who think they are diabetics are actually insulin resistant meaning they take in more carbohydrates than they actually burn so their pancreas cant keep up and their blood sugar is high. get the paperback book about the atkins diet and give it a try for a week or so. monitor your sugars and see what happens. good luck.

diabetes means, excess glucose content(sugar) due inability to convert energy,,and the root cause for all this is lack of insulin,,..
so now you need to convert the food you eat to energy and not glucose..this can be done by doing physical exersice or injecting insulin,,
if your aim is to prevent injection then you have to do enough exersice to burn the food,, and how much exersice depends on person to person..walk 3 miles check ur suger leavels,,not enough increase the exersice ,,and take care you eat low calorie food..bye tc,

never try to do exercise or walk on empty stomach otherwise you may face hypoglycaemic symptoms. gradually increase your walk. it should take up to one hour. try some floor exercises[ stretchings] under guidance of an expert. consume high fibre low carb diet along with medications

My husband used to have the same problem when he didn't have his diabetes under control. When you are used to having a high blood sugar and then it drops clear below what your body is used to it will feel like you are having a low blood sugar even if you are not having one. I would suggest talking to your doctor and telling them that these problems are occurring.
