Can you catch HPV through kissing?!

Question: What are all the ways you can catch HPV. I know you can catch it through an infected penis, scrotum, vagina, vulva, or anus but what about things like towels, toilet seats, bar soap, etc.?
Does kissing on the lips spread it?

Does kissing on the lips spread it?

Transmission of Human Papillomavirus (HPV, or the wart virus) is not fully understood, though it is usually spread through direct skin to skin contact (especially sexually) and the virus lives in skin cells. It does not require the presence of a visible wart to be transmitted. It is not transmitted through blood.

It is extremely common, and most people don't even develop symptoms. The common skin wart, as well as genital warts, are caused by different varieties of HPV, but contact with common skin warts (eg, hands) does not cause genital warts.

Some viruses can survive for a significant time outside the body (eg, smallpox). Others die very quickly (eg, HIV). HPV has been known to survive outside the body, however as with any virus, it is easily removed from any surface by soap or detergent. There is no reason to suspect it could be contracted from clean towels, seats, etc. Mouth to mouth kissing will not spread genital HPV, unless of course the mouth has already been in contact with an infected genital area! Any direct skin contact with the genital area can spread the virus.

kissing can spread hpv, although it is not common it most certainly CAN.. even drinking out of the same cup can.

you may also get herpes type one from kissing

scary huh.

Yes. Also syphilis, hepatitis, gonorrhea, herpes . . . can also be spread by kissing.

A study in Great Britain, found evidence that HPV may be transmitted from one's hands to a partner's genitals. Consequently, some lawmakers are pushing for better labeling of condoms so the public knows that no barrier contraceptive method can completely safeguard against the virus.
