Sight can be affected by diabetes, especially if it's not under control. Are you giving him insulin?
I've had two (male) cats that developed diabetes. The first one seemed to get over it--his blood sugar started testing normal. But then his sight started to go. When I walked the dogs my cat would follow (we looked like a parade) but if we got out of his sight he'd started meowing and yowling really loud until I started calling him and then he would follow the sound of my voice. Once he almost walked right in front of a moving car trying to catch up.
Have his vision checked out by a vet. Love him as long as you have him!

My second cat with diabetes didn't have eye problems that I know of but he also didn't have much appetite for the vet's diabetic diet food either and was starting to waste away. My vet told me to feed him whichever cat food he would eat-he liked canned Whiskas- and just to keep his blood sugar balanced and make sure he had plenty of water to drink. He was always good about my testing his blood. I would put his food out and he would eat while I did the blood test. Unfortunately he got cancer, and died from that.
