Is there any point in going to the doctors with a cold and sinus infection?!

Question: Hacking cough, evil yellow snot and severe burning pain in the sinuses; but will the doctor be able to give me anything or just tell me it's a cold and to go home and take two aspirin?

I feel for you, I really do. I had a really bad attack a few months ago and it took three weeks to clear. I tried all the usual remedies, sprays etc but to no avail. I went to the doctor and it was three different antibiotics later before it cleared.
Try to keep a nasal spray in your handbag at all times, if you persistently have sinusitis, as it does help if you can alleviate it right away.

Good luck in getting rid of it hun. It is a very painful thing.

It depends on your doctor. Current theory is that sinus infections do not need to be treated with antibiotics. Recommendations are: tylenol or ibuprofen for any pain/fever, decongestant cough medication or pill (sudafed); run a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep, consider irrigating your sinuses with a Neti pot. All will help but colds get better on their own time frame.

Yep sounds like sinusitis. ask for some antibiotics.

anytime there is a suspected sinus infection...go to the Dr....
people don't realize how serious they are.
we had a great niece that ended up having brain surgery at 11 yr old because of a sinus infection that spread to the brain....very serious.
God bless and go to the Dr.

If you have a sinus infection it can only get worse if you don't see the doctor because the infection can spread. It's happened to me before and trust me, it's very painful!

well just go to the store and get medicine is it that hard or if its worse go to the doctor...

He won't be able to give you anything that will cure it, and by going to the doctor's anyway all you'll be doing is spreading the germs. Just stay at home - use any combination of honey, lemon, sugar and hot water and a couple of aspirins/paras ! ! !

For a sinus infection yes, go to your GP. There are some prescription nasal sprays that will help.

Sinusitis mean inflammation of the sinuses. (anything ending in itis means inflammation tonsillitis arthritis) Now what causes that to happen. If you do not have a high fever it is most likely not a bacteria infection antibiotics are of no use. If it is viral I would not worry about taking the anti viral the side effects can be worse.

Most likely the problem is allergy's. I can almost bet if you take some over the counter Clariten. Your problem will clear up

So much conflicting advice - speak to a pharmacist - she might recommend Sinutab or she might tell you to go to the doctor.
I've had sinusitis before - terrible pain behind the eyes when leaning forward, it was awful. The doctor sent me away and told me to get some sinutab from the pharmacist.......

If you are coughing up yellow green or red flam its a sign that you have an infection of the chest and this will need antibiotics from your doctor.

The ony things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes
