Answers: My dad always smokes and i avoid him alot when he does and i keep smelling it from a very far distance

No, you'll be fine. Second hand smoke is a scam anyway. If you actually look at the studies they show you have a greater chance of getting lung cancer if you've never been around cigarette smoke than if you have.

Cigarette smoke is detrimental to smokers and to unborn babies. Other than that you're in the clear.

Read the studies. Don't listen to popular myths and old wive's tales. Just because people repeat something doesn't make it true.

yes it does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm positive it will.

You must get your lungs checked for cancer by a good doctor right away.

(I'm kidding, if your dad inhaled the smoke directly and not grown a cancer in his lungs yet, you will not grow one just by smelling it in 10 lifetimes)

and on a serious note:

ask your dad to avoid smoking inside the house which I guess is inhabited by others who don't. I believe it's a crime to spead the strong smelling smoke in a closed space which is shared with people who choose not to smoke!!

lol

Yes, second-hand smoke can cause lung cancer. It is said by experts that non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke are between 20% and 30% more likely to develop lung cancer.
The experts also found cancers of the stomach, liver, uterus, cervix, kidney and myeloid leukaemia could be caused in part by smoking.

Second hand smoke has been proved to cause cancer and other health problems. If you smell it on his cloths or he smokes outside and a little drifts in the house I would say don't worry. If he smokes inside the house then smoke drifts around an enclosed area and lingers in the air it's possible that second hand smoke is present in an amount will affect your health and possibly cause cancer.
Most smokers ,like your dad, know this and ar denial of the facts. Smokers don't understand that their quick 2 minute cigarette gives nonsmokers hours of unpleasant odors. Tell him that the smoke around the house bothers your breathing ,if he loves you not to smoke in the house, and if he really loves you not to smoke at all.

No, the smell will not cause lung cancer.
But yes, inhaling the smoke is considered second hand smoking, and that increases the chances of getting lung cancer.
However in this case, you are inhaling the smoke from a far distance and not directly so it will not be likely that you will be affected.
As a precaution though, do keep away when he smokes.

Whether second hand smoke is actually a danger has been debated for the last 10 years. See the link below for all the contradictory facts on the subject.

But will just the SMELL of smoke cause cancer or any other disease? Absolutely not. There's no scientific or medical data to indicate that the odor of smoke contains anything harmful.
