Lead come off a 24 hour cardiac moniter advice needed please?!


Question: its 6.40 am and ive just gotton up withy 5 year old son he had a 24 hour cardiac moniter fitted yesterday and this morning when hes woke we have found one of the leads has come off does any one know what happpens now is th recording ruined now i cant ring anywhere to find out as its to early he is meant to be wearing it for school at returning it at 3pm today i dont know if theres any point in it staying on now or if i should keep him off school and just return it early by the time the ecg office opens he will already be at school

I wouldn't worry too much. I'd send him on to school, and when you take it back this afternoon, tell them what happened. If they don't have a good reading, they'll simply give you another monitor and have him wear it for another 24 hrs.

I suggest plugging it back in. Whoever reads the output will notice that there's a gap in the trace. Ring later for advice when people are available to talk to. It may be that he just has to wear the monitor for a while longer.

Nip him down to you local A+E an dthey will sort it out.

Not a big deal. if worst comes to worst, they'll just change the batteries, put the leads back on, and let him have the thing for another 24 hours. It is definitely NOT something to go to the emergency room for. Bring it back in when they told you to and explain what happened. They may look at the reading and decide its good enough; you may not even need to do it over.
