Does anyone know how long you have to be on Amoxicillin before you are no longer!

Question: finally gave in and went to a doctor only to find out i have strep. the rapid strep test came back negative however the culture came back positive a few days later. i don't know if that means i have a weak case of strep or not. Anyhow, i have been on amoxicillin for three days and i am just wondering how long you have to been on the stuff before you are no longer contagious. I won't kiss my boyfriend until i am better and frankly it's getting old for both of us.

Well the rapid test gives a lot of false negative results. That's why they did the culture which is much more accurate but take a couple days because you need to grow the bacteria. Chances are that you are not contagious but there is always the risk. But I do recommend to finish all of the amoxicillin or it has a great chance of coming back and it will be much much worse.

until you finish the whole bottle

my doctor told me 24-48 hours.

Do not stop early, and Finish the prescribed amount given to you, even if you feel "Better".

If you stop prematurely without finishing it completely, the bacteria could come back, and can be resistant to the antibiotics, so it'll become useless to treat you with.

It's an anti-biotic...you must keep taking them until your prescription runs out.

You are supposed to continue taking your prescribed Anti-biotics even after symptoms disappear. This is because infections stay in your system because they are subdued by the anti-biotic, but if you stop takign them the infection will get stronger and become somewhat 'immune' that dose of anti-biotic that you took and it will take even more anti-biotics to get rid it the next time is flares up. You have to take the whole course that is prescribed to ensure the infection is subdued long enough for it to leave your system or die off.

They say when you Finish them. but I'm sure you are fine after 72hrs. Is there A fever. And also I'm sure you were kissing your Boyfriend when you went to Dr. Apt. so he was already introduced to it , so if he is to get it , it would have been then , I'm sure you are fine now as long as you don't have A fever. If you have A fever then you are still contagious. That is why the schools say if you have A fever you can't be in school. Because that is when you are at its peek of being Contagious.
I hope you get better..
