Is it possible to be allergic to red wine?!

Question: I drank red wine for the first time at a gathering and soon had a severe type of reaction. I dont remember much but I was paranoid and hallucinating and my eyes were dialated. The ambulance attendants thought i was on LSD but I dont do drugs. I guess i cant blame them for thinking that because I was probably acting like I was on some sort of hallucinagin. At anyrate, my docs are convinced that someone put some sort of date rape drug in my drink but i am convinced that none of my friends would do this. is it possoble that the wine had this affect on me?

Actually an allergic reaction to red wine would have different symptomes. A lot of of people are allergic to the hitamine that is in red wine. But it causes mostly rash and itching.

Other allergenes in red wine are sulfur and traces of moulds. But these normally cause stomachache, nausea and diarrhea.

There is also a quite rare allergy to ethanol (alcohol) causing flushing, rash, allergic coryza and tachycardia. But I guess you would've found out you had this allergy, if this red wine wasn't the first alcohol you drank.

As your symptomes are way different, I would also guess, that somebody drugged you. May be it would be an idea to have a drug test.

Yeap. I am allergic to Alcohol. My face get red and become rashy

All wine contains sulfites which you may be allergic to.

Maybe you got drunk?

allergic reactions generally include things like swelling of the throat, face, hives, stuff like that......

If that happened to me I would be seriously thinking about two things. 1) Do I really know my friends? 2) Did I just drink way too much?

Stay off the homemade stuff, just joking. You already said your doctors are convinced it was LSD did they take a urine sample or a blood sample? watch out for friends.

Red wine contains a lot of sulfates that some people react very badly to because of the histamines - so it's an allergy. I'm one of them. I always preferred the taste of red wine over white, but always get pounding headaches, heart palpitations and body aches when I drink it - even it's it's only one glass.

I don't typically care for white wine, but I had a glass of it at my sister's house at Christmas and not only did it taste really good (not at all dry and vinegar-y), but I didn't get the normal bad side effects. In the future, I think I'll be switching to Pinot Grigio.

I have never heard of a reaction doing that before, bu I guess it's possable. I would rethink my friends if I were you, but anyway...
Anyone can be allergic to anything, so a red wine allergy isn't unheard of.
Avoid drinking ANYTHING around your friends.

It is very possible. You can be allergic to anything. Be very carefull and your going to want to get that checked at a hospital by a blood test or etc. I am allergic to peanuts and treenuts and my sister is allergic to treenuts and kiwi.
