Yes herpes is contagious and is transmitted by skin and or moucous membranes. There are two types of herpes, herpes simplex-1 (coldsoares) and herpes simplex-2 (genital). Both are contagious and can be transmitted between each area, like genital to mouth and mouth to mouth. It is most contagious when the person has an outbreak but it can also be transmitted when there is no sign of an outbreak at all...which makes it latent. One way or preventing contracting herpes is by abstinence or by using dental dams when having oral sex http://www.sexualityandu.ca/adults/sti-4... the website explains dental dams. thanks for asking

indeed they will.
