my aunt, well my mums aunt, was a nurse for about 35yrs, working in hospitals and in the community. she was a district nurse when she took early retirement at 51. she took early retirement as she had worked so hard for other people all those years and wanted to enjoy our family. she never married nor had any children. my generation, her great nieces and nephews were her babies and all of us were incredibly close to her. a year after retirement she had a kidney removed due to a growth. then a growth appeared somewhere else and after chemotherapy and radiotherapy and numerous surgical procedures she was admitted to a hospice. she was bed ridden but as always very high in spirits. even from her bed she was keeping those around her entertained. we were told it was a waiting game.

she slipped in and out of consciousness 3 times. each time us being told this was it, she would never come back from it and she proved th drs wrong. after the 3rd time she was left unable to talk due to a brain aneurysm. a week later, 2nd aug 1999 she passed away. and with her a little bit of all of us passed away. she had fought long and hard but after 9 years of battling she was tired.

not once in that 9 years di she complain, she never once admitted she would be defeated and through the pain, she kept smiling and through our pain she kept us smiling. she helped people her whole life and her funeral was jam packed which in itself was a fitting tribute

i still think about her and miss her every single day. i just had my daughter 5mos ago and it pains me to know she will never know her.

I SHOULD ADD THAT HER WHOLE BODY WAS RIDDLED WITH CANCER BUT THE RELEVANCE IS THAT HER OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH WAS BREAST CANCER

My mom has a close friend who had cancer and a double mastectomy over 40 years ago and she never had a relapse. I have two close friends who are at this time 5 year plus survivors, one of them was just 31 when she got it, the other was 53. I don't know anyone that has lost the battle and I thank God for that!

My Dear friend had it a few years ago and she is in remission now and has been for yrs. This cancer runs in her family,Her mom died of breast cancer when she was young.

There is a great gal that I work with, she is a 5 year breast cancer survivor. Well, last year she started having back problems and she kept going to the doctor and they couldn't find anything wrong with her. Well one day she couldn't move her legs so they flew her to John Hopkins and she had a big tumor sitting on her spine. She had to have several major surgeries on her spine, chemo, radiation. Miraculously today she is cancer free she can walk and she is even working again. :)

I was diagnosed over five years ago, my youngest was three and I was told that I would not see her go to school. My tumour was big and had spread to my lymphs. She is now nine!! I dont always feel great but I am here to be her mum and that is just priceless to me. (and to her I hope!!)

A lady I work with was diagnosed about 9 years ago with Stage IIIa breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy, and then chose to have a stem cell transplant. Anyone who knows anything about this, knows this is one of the most horrific treatments one can have. They infuse massive doses of chemo to destroy your immune system, then implant the stem cells. You are very sick for weeks and weeks. 9 years ago, they did not have the kinds of drugs we have today to control side effects. She survived the treatment, and has been cancer-free ever since. She is my inspiration in my battle.

The best way to fight breast cancer is to stay away from mainstream medicine. There are tons of articles in the link below that will inspire your team to fight a REAL fight against breast cancer, and I hope you will pass this knowledge on to other teams as well.

My aunt got a breast-reduction and that's when they discovered her cancer. She ended up having a masectomy, getting chemo and was on meds. Turns out, the meds aggravated a heart condition so for awhile she had to stop cancer treatment to let her heart regain some strength. She was feeling like either her cancer or her heart problems were definitely going to kill her. She wasn't ready to die and kept up the fight. She got to a point where she could finish chemo and go on herceptin. A few months ago she was given the "all clear" on the cancer front. She's now happily a breast cancer survivor and her heart is much stronger now that she's done with cancer meds!

Have a fun and inspiring walk! Stay strong! :o)
