He should do great. Be prepared after surgery for a very irritable 2 year old. The majority of children act like they are mad if you look or speak to them right after waking from surgery. It is the anesthesia doing this. We just Allow them to sleep it off, he will wake more after about 4 hours.
The nurse in recovery should give him something for pain before bringing them back to the room. Ask your nurse if he got something for pain in recovery, if not request at least Tylenol. If they experience bad pain (and they do )when swallowing, THEY WILL REFUSE TO DRINK ANYTHING.....even the pain medicine. So be sure to get some kind of pain reliever in them before the anesthesia wears off.
Good luck, hope this helps

My son had his adenoids out at this age also. He will be fine. They will give him Popsicles after the surgery. His throat will be sore for awhile so be prepared for ice cream, jello and pudding at home. All soft foods. I wish you and him luck.
