6 month old gets rashes?!

Question: He seems to have very sensitive skin. He gets a red rash on his face whenever daddy kisses him (I guess its the rough beard. He gets it on his body sometimes too. My dr has seen it but told me to call him if it doesnt go away in a few days. It went away in a few hours. It always goes away quickly. Could it be eczema? Is eczema dangerous? Could it be caused by my cats?

Sounds like normal, healthy, and slightly sensitive baby skin.

If it was eczema or another skin disorder, it wouldnt have appeared in response to a slight skin irritation, and it surely would not have subsided within a few hours.
I'd suggest you apply some mild moisturizing lotion over the areas prone to irritation.

If this is your first child, its also normal for mothers to be overly protective and anxious, hehe. Take it easy, it's all normal.

it most likley is a rough beard my daughter always gets them when my husband kisses her you baby is fine

It isn't eczema. Baby skin is VERY delicate. It sounds perfectly normal to me. Detergent can cause a rash, your perfume or cologne, beards.... anything pretty much. Their skin is just really delicate. Don't worry unless it doesn't go away--like the doc said.

It could be contact dermetitis, caused by perfume. You would be surprised what all has perfume in it. I have it, and one of my three sons has a mild case of it. My niece who just turned 11 months has it.

My sister used to get eczema real bad too. It was an allergy. We figured out it was MSG - monosodium glutamate - a perservitive used in some non perishable foods. You need to start recording the dates that he gets it and everything he ate that day along with everything he touched. Does your husband wash his beard? If no, maybe he should start. If yes, maybe he should try using something else. Where does your husband work, is there something like pollens or dust that could get caught in his beard and then touch the baby? Is there something your husband eats for lunch on those days that might touch his beard and then touch the baby? Some people are so severly allergic to shellfish or nuts that they can't even eat food prepared near the allergen.

No, not dangerous. :o) I have this and it's itchy and shows small blisters sometimes. I get it on my hands mostly.

Your baby has skin soft like a rose petal. Doesn't take much for skin like that to get aggitated. Sounds like Daddy's beard bothered him/her, but if you really want to check into allergies (like the cats), ask the doctor about this.

I know when mine were small the heat or oatmeal would do
it.

Keep a log of when this rash occurs.
Also record any thing new or different in the baby's routine.
It could be a food allergy.irritation from the father's beard, laundry detergent, baby soaps, baby lotions anything could trigger it.Just be watchful and tell her father to be gentle, his skin is so fragile.
