Will I regret having a cardiac radiofrequency ablation when I get older?!
Question: I had AV node re entry so bad I was afraid to travel by plane or be by myself because if my heart took off at a gallop, I would not be able to explain it to anyone.
I have been ablated. It worked thank goodness I no longer have to worry. Have they ever studied the long term affects of a cardiac ablation. I have palpitations really bad sometimes, but nothing as horrible as having my heart start pounding at about 240 and getting stuck at that "speed". I dont know how long ablation has been available. I know they could not do it in the 1980's or at least didnt tell me they could. I always assumed I would just be found dead somewhere.
Are there any long term effects of having my electric wiring short circuited in my heart?

I work in electro physiology cath labs or EP as I call it. Ep has been around since the 1980's but is a lot more advance now than back then, especially av node ablation.
The are no long term complications and I do not foresee they to be any in the future.
Any complications with EP would have occurred immediately or within 2 days of the procedure.
Relax, you will be fine.
