What are some effective treatments for prinzmetal's angina?!
Question: We've tried metropolol and a calcium channel blocker but these didn't work.
Answers: We've tried metropolol and a calcium channel blocker but these didn't work.
Metoprolol (and other beta blockers) isn't really a drug of choice for Variant or Atypical (Prinzmetal) Angina. If a patient is refractory with one type of Calcium channel blocker (or develops tolerance to the drug), your physician may try to increase the dose or use another Calcium channel blocker in combination. Another drug that has shown calcium channel blocking activity is the antiarrhythmic Amiodarone.
Nitrates, especially the time tested sub lingual nitroglycerine, remains generally effective for relief of pain once an attack has started.
If a patient has severely sclerotic coronary arteries as a factor, then surgical options (such as bypass) should be explored. Talk with your doctor.
Good luck

Cath.lab guy here, yeah prinzmetals angina is caused by spasm in coronary arteries caused by smoking, stressing, a number a reasons but the treatment for these often temporary events have alwas been nitrates. Sublingual nitroglycerin (no not the explosive kind) would be the most fast acting and convenient. Ask your cardiologist.
